2010 Recycling and Waste Collection Calendar

Curbside Giveaway Day is Saturday, October 30.
Simply place unwanted items at your curb between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. marked "FREE" to invite residents to help themselves to your disposed goods. All articles must be removed from the curb by 6 p.m. For more information, call the Customer Service Centre at 905-895-5193.

 Collection Information

  • The Town of Newmarket provides bi-weekly curbside garbage collection and weekly green bin and recycling collection. As pick-up times may vary for these collection vehicles on your scheduled pick-up day, materials must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m.
  • A three bag / item limit is currently in effect in the Town. Residents can place three untagged garbage bags up to a total maximum of 6 bags for pick up (3 untagged plus 3 tagged) . The commercial bag limit is a maximum of 6 untagged garbage bags and 6 tagged every other week. Residents are required to purchase garbage bag tags, sold in a package of 5 for $12, to cover additional garbage bags placed at the curb for pick-up.

  • Carpet and linoleum will be picked up on your biweekly garbage day, provided it is cut up and securely tied in bundles weighing no more than 20 kg (44 lbs). Maximum length is 1.2 m (4 ft). Each bundle counts as one item towards the weekly bag limit. Additional rolls requires a bag tag.
  • Garbage must be placed in bags or containers that do not exceed 24" x 36" and do not weigh more than 50 pounds (22 kilograms). For items which exceed these limits, large item tags must be purchased from the Town of Newmarket. A charge of $12 per large item will apply.
  • Please ensure that your green bins, garbage and blue boxes are visible to the operator (not blocked by parked cars or on top of snow banks).

Did you know?

Garbage trucks have tanks that hold the liquid that escapes from garbage cans and bags. However, if the tank fills before the truck is finished its collection, the liquid spills onto the roadway. You can help by making sure that non-recyclable containers placed in garbage cans and bags are emptied of their liquid contents and that rain water is emptied or kept out of garbage cans.
