  • New Look! Same great information on the 2024 Waste and Recycling Calendar

    Created: Thursday, December 07, 2023

The 2024 Waste and Recycling calendars have been mailed and will be reaching residents’ mailboxes very soon (approximately mid-December). Residents can expect to see a new format for the 2024 Waste and Recycling Calendar in an easy to follow single-page layout as opposed to the previous multi-page booklet.

This one-page calendar change was made to further support the Town and Council’s priority in environmental sustainability by using less paper and ink to reduce the environmental impact. In addition, the new calendar highlights the entire year on one page, allowing residents to reference weekly and seasonal changes to their services without the need to flip through multiple pages, making it easier to find information quickly.

The new one-page calendar continues to provide helpful waste information and tips to ensure proper disposal and diversion of waste from landfill. Residents can help the cause further by following these helpful waste tips:

    • Please have all items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day and only use Town-approved bins for your recycling and organics.

      • If you aren’t sure what your collection day is, please refer to the collection map at

      • If your waste materials were not collected, please call GFL at 1-866-421-5625 and do not chase after the GFL truck.

    • Green Bin Organics: Use certified compostable bags for your organics such as food waste, paper towels, pet waste and diapers.

    • Blue Box Recycling: Empty and rinse all food containers prior to recycling. Try to place lighter items on the bottom and heavier items at the top to prevent items from blowing away during inclement weather. Bagged recycling will NOT be accepted. Remember to flatten and bundle carboard with twine or string. (Maximum size: 36” X 36” X 8”).

    • Large Item Collection: Items like mattresses, desks, plastic lawn furniture, and office chairs require a large item tag for the item to be collected at the curb on your designated garbage day. Large metal items such as appliances and BBQs also require a large item tag as well as a scheduled pick up with GFL. Tags can be purchased by emailing or through the Town’s online store at (an account is required to make your purchase). To schedule a metal item pick-up with GFL, call 1-866-421-5625 or email

    • Renovation waste such as concrete, wood and drywall are NOT collected at the curb. Visit York Region’s website for disposal options.

    • Take all household hazardous waste such as electronics and batteries to a York Region waste depot for safe disposal. Visit York Region’s website for disposal options.
