Funeral Procession for CYFS Fire Chief Ian Laing – Service and Travel Disruptions

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023 hundreds will gather to honour Fire Chief Ian Laing who has served the communities of Newmarket and Aurora for 14 years and passed peacefully in his home on November 30.
A funeral procession to the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West) comprised of uniformed service members will take place on Eagle Street from Yonge Street starting at approximately 12:30 p.m. followed by a public funeral service at 1 p.m. at the facility. and be seated at the arena by 12:45 p.m. (or earlier). Arrive through the secondary entrance on Alex Doner Drive (between Crossland Gate and Kirby Crescent/Brimson Drive). Auxiliary police will direct attendees into the building.
The public are advised to avoid travel on Eagle Street from Yonge Street to Crossland Gate and McCaffrey Road from Rannie Road to Eagle Street as there will be intermittent road closures from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Programming at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex will be paused on December 12 for the funeral.
During the funeral, the Towns of Aurora and Newmarket will be fully covered in case of fire emergencies. Neighbouring fire departments have stepped in to provide full coverage to our communities and allow CYFS staff to attend Chief Laing’s funeral. This is a testament to the fire service family which extends beyond borders.
