From the very beginning, the culture and sense of community had me hooked. During my time with the Town of Newmarket, I have built many positive connections with both coworkers and members of the community, fostering a genuine feeling of being valued and appreciated. I am truly grateful to be able to follow my passions while providing Newmarket residents with opportunities to live well. My managers have consistently shown genuine care and support, offering meaningful opportunities for growth. I have also had the chance to support Community Events and gain experience with the Customer Service Kiosk Associate role, further expanding my skills and knowledge. My experience with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation & Culture department has been incredibly positive and has left me with a strong sense of belonging. "I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to work as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor for the Town of Newmarket. Teaching swim lessons has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. There is no better feeling than seeing someone achieve their goals in the pool. All of my co-workers and supervisors are exceptionally welcoming and foster a positive environment every shift. Through this role, I have learned so much about myself and the person I aspire to become. Working in aquatics allows for meaningful connections with co-workers, patrons, and the wider community. “I started my Town of Newmarket Camps journey in Fall 2022 by taking an Inclusion CIT course. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first took it, but I immediately gained new skills that helped build my confidence to make a positive impact in people's lives. The following March Break Camp was my first experience working as a Senior Inclusion Facilitator. I loved being a part of an environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all campers. Working at the Town of Newmarket has given me so many opportunities to grow into new roles, such as Inclusion Program Instructor, Kiosk Receptionist and Events Assistant. The skills and experience I have gained in inclusion and camps are already impacting my daily life and will be invaluable to my future career path in Speech Language Pathology. In addition to the skills learned, camps is a big community that has introduced me to long lasting friendships. All of this together has given me a great experience and has me looking forward to returning every year!”
