A demolition on your property may require a Permit to Construct or Demolish. For confirmation whether a building permit for the specific demolition is required, please contact a Building Services Technician at building.permits@newmarket.ca. Prior to any demolition activity starting, we recommend ensuring that the structure is not designated as a Heritage Structure.
To submit an application for a Demolition Permit, please ensure you have the following documents:
- A completed application form for a permit to construct or demolish
- Site plan that clearly outlines the proposed demolition
Required Review
A Professional Engineer may be required to undertake the general review of the demolition if the building falls within the following criteria:
- The building exceeds three (3) storeys or 6460 square feet
- The building includes pre-tension or post-tension members
- Demolition extends into the angle of repose of adjacent buildings
- Demolition includes the use of lasers or explosives
Requirements during demolition:
- The Town streets affected by the demolition shall be cleaned daily for any rubble or debris
- All rubble and debris shall go to a Ministry of Environment approved landfill site
- Upon completion of the demolition, the site shall be left graded and level ready for any new proposed development and inspection approval obtained
