With key public health and health care indicators continuing to improve and the province-wide vaccination rate surpassing the targets outlined in the province's Roadmap to Reopen, the Town of Newmarket will be moving into Step 3 of the roadmap as of Monday, July 19, 2021.  Extended Town amenities and offerings will be opening in accordance to the health and safety guidelines and attendee numbers/capacity limits as outlined in Step 3.

Group Fitness

Group Fitness Information
  • Outdoor Fitness classes will take place on the southwest green space of the Magna Centre.  Participants will meet on the green space and show staff their green checkmark for their Covid-19 screening
  • Indoor group fitness classes will take place in our gymnasium to ensure physical distancing.
  • Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
  • Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership, and non-members are $5.00 plus tax per class.
  • Upon arrival, participants are required to line up outside the west entrance of The Magna Centre (lower level) in the designated waiting area before the booking start time. Signage will indicate the physical distancing requirements. 
  • Face masks are required within our facility.  Masks are not required during exercise but must remain on until directed otherwise by the Fitness Instructor.
  • Ten (10) minutes before your class time, the Pre-Screening Check-in process will begin.  Participants must fill out the online Covid-19 screening and present the staff with the green checkmark.
  • Classes must begin and end on time, and no late check in's will be permitted at this time.
  • Once checked in, you will be permitted to go up to the gymnasium.
  • Classes have been modified where possible to ensure less movement and equipment.
  • Personal items will be kept at your designated station.
  • All participants have designated spots that are a minimum of 10 feet/ 3 meters from another participant.
  • You must be mindful of your neighbours to not move from your designated spot.
  • Upon arrival at the gymnasium, participants will get their required fitness equipment and take it to their designated spot.
  • Participants must wipe down their equipment with the wipes provided before returning their equipment to the designated spot.
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time.
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required.
  • Once the class is over, and equipment is cleaned and returned, participants must exit the gymnasium promptly down the back stairwell.
  • Change rooms and showers are not available at this time.
  • You must come ready to workout including your pre-filled water bottle, as water fountains are not available at this time.


Group Fitness FAQ

How do I attend a Group Fitness class?  Can I just show up?
All participants must pre-register and pay online at play.newmarket.ca. A reduced drop-in fee of $5 plus tax is available to non-fitness centre members.


Will change rooms and showers be available for my workout visit?
Change room and showers will not be available at this time. You must arrive dressed for your class. Please leave valuables at home and use the designated spot for items that you bring with you.

 

How will you ensure my safety during my group fitness class?
Capacities are reduced, and spaces must be reserved. A health screening is required before entering the facility. Physical distancing is mandatory, and regular cleaning and sanitization of high touch points and equipment will be performed regularly.

 

Do I have to wear a mask?
All users must wear a mask/face covering while in the facility, all common areas and the group fitness area.  Masks are not required during exercise but are recommended to be with you at all times.

 

Is there a schedule with a list of instructors and class styles?

How do I cancel my class registration?
You can log back into your account and cancel your reservation one (1) day in advance.  For day of cancellations please email fitness@newmarket.ca with cancel in the subject line. Please make sure to include your name and the class that you would like to cancel.

qua Fitness

Aqua Fitness Information

  • Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
  • Participants are required to line up outside the facility at the pool entrance, in the designated waiting area prior to the booking start time. Signage will indicate the physical distancing requirements.
  • The Town of Newmarket has an online COVID-19 screening for the public at all municipal facilities.  Scan the QR code at the Pool entrance to access the Public Health screening. Click here to take the screening 
  • Five (5) minutes prior to your class time, the Check-In Process will begin. Once checked in, you will be permitted to wait safely and physically distanced in our designated waiting area
  • Pre-purchased 10/20/30/100x Membership Passes/ Swim Visits are not available to be used or purchased at this time. 
  • All participants will be required to physically distance in the pool and capacities have been reduced to allow for this.
  • Participants are permitted to bring their own Aquafit belt, pool noodle and gloves for use
  • Town-owned equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • All users are required to use the provided hand sanitizer and wear a mask while in the facility, all common areas, and the pool deck area. Masks are to be taken off and left with your belongings prior to entering the water.
  • Exiting procedures will be in an orderly fashion with Deck Supervisors available to direct traffic flow.

Aqua Fitness FAQ

How do I attend an Aqua Fitness class. Can I just show up?

All participants must pre-register and pay online. There will be no in person drop ins available at this time. Residents are still asked to reserve their spot on-line at play.newmarket.ca and pay the drop in fee at this time.


Will change rooms and showers be available for my pool visit?

Changerooms will be open for changing for 10 minutes AFTER each scheduled class. Showers will be unavailable at this time.  Changerooms will not be available prior to your class, you must come ready to swim.

Changeroom access will be limited to accommodate physical distancing requirements. Participants are encouraged to leave the pool enclosure immediately after their scheduled class and to shower and change at home.

Changeroom Guidelines:

  • All participants are required to arrive changed and ready to swim. There will not be changeroom access permitted prior to your scheduled class.
  • Lockers will not be available. Please leave valuables at home and use a designated spot on the pool deck for items you bring to the pool. The Town of Newmarket is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Limited changeroom access will be provided for changing only AFTER each scheduled class. There will be no access to showers, hair dryers, bathing suit spinners, or outlets.
  • Masks/face coverings must be worn in the changeroom at all times.
  • Changeroom access is limited to 10 minutes AFTER the end of each class and all participants will be required to exit the facility through the pool deck after this 10-minute period. There will be floor markings to direct traffic flow.
  • Depending on the number of participants, you may have to wait to access the changeroom. You will be required to wait on the pool deck with your belongings as directed by the lifeguards.
  • Participants are encouraged to leave the pool enclosure immediately after their scheduled class and to shower and change at home.
  • The changeroom will be cleaned/sanitized throughout each day. Please use the changerooms at your own risk.


How will you ensure my safety during my Aqua Fit program?
Capacities are reduced and spots must be reserved.  A health screening will be required prior to entering the pool. Physical distancing will be mandatory and regular cleaning and sanitization of high touch points and equipment will be performed regularly.

 

Do I have to wear a mask?
As part of our safety protocols; all participants within the facility must wear a mask; including the pool deck.  Masks are to be taken off and left with your personal belongings prior to entering the water.


Can I use my Fitness Centre Membership Pass to book Swim Visits/ Aqua Fitness?
Fitness Centre Members are not able to register at no charge at this time as Fitness Centre Memberships continue to be on hold.


Will there be aqua fitness equipment to use during my class?

AquaFit dumbbells, noodles, gloves, paddles and belts are now available for use.  Participants are welcome to bring their own equipment.  There will be no sharing of equipment at this time.  All Town-owned equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.

Safety measures in place


What you need to do when using our facilities

  • Physical distancing of 2 metres is required at all times.
  • All members and staff are to follow the provincial self-assessment guidelines outlined by public health officials
  • All patrons in the facility will need to conduct a health screening upon arrival at the facility.
  • Sanitize your hands frequently.
  • Masks are required when entering the facility, in common areas, lobbies, washrooms, and hallways.
  • All users of the Fitness Centre will be required to wear a mask/face covering except for when you are actively using any cardio equipment.
    Your mask must stay on while travelling between pieces of equipment.
  • Identified entry and exit points as indicated by signage and markers must be followed
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment AFTER each use.

What we are doing to keep you safe
Facility

  • Prior to reopening, the entire facility has gone through a rigorous deep clean and disinfecting.
  • High traffic surface areas will be cleaned frequently as necessary to maintain a sanitary condition.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be made available at the entrance and accessible throughout the facility.
  • All Fitness staff will be required to wear a mask with the exception of Fitness Instructors while actively instructing a class.
  • Signage to direct traffic flow and encourage the use of masks and physical distancing will be posted.

Fitness Centre

  • We have all brand-new MATRIX equipment available for your use.
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment after each use. To make this convenient, spray bottles have been replaced with new Certainty™ Disinfectant Wipes stations.
  • Some machines may be unavailable to ensure physical distancing can be maintained.
  • Fifteen (15) minutes of dedicated cleaning is conducted after each workout session.
  • Pre-registration is required to participate in a workout session. No walk-ins are available at this time.


Before you enter the facility

Why should you book your workout session in advance?

  1. Guarantee your workout time: Booking in advance secures your spot.
  2. Ease of entry: You will be greeted into the Facility no earlier than 15 minutes prior to when your workout is scheduled to begin. By booking in advance, we already have you in our system, so you simply need to complete a mandatory Public Health Screening by following the link or scan the QR Code on Magna Centre Entrance doors to access the Public Health Screening Tool. https://maps.newmarket.ca/covidscreening/

Booking Guidelines

To ensure everyone gets an opportunity to use our Fitness Amenities, here are some guidelines.

  • Registration in advance is required for all programming (Fitness Centre access, Group Fitness Classes, Lane swimming, etc.)
  • *NEW- No in person DROP IN's are permitted at this time, no exceptions
  • Members/Participants using fitness amenities are asked to only book one (1) session per day due to the limited availability at this time
  • At the end of a workout time slot, you must leave the Facility, regardless of when you entered.
  • Group Fitness participants will not be permitted to enter into the class after the scheduled start time
  • Fitness Sessions are non-refundable and non-transferable. Should the Town of Newmarket cancel classes and/or workout sessions beyond the control of our members/ users, a credit will be processed to your account to use for a future Fitness session and/or program/service offered by the Town.
  • If you cannot make your scheduled time one (1) day, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled session/class.  A credit will be applied to your account.
  • For cancellations for Fitness Centre Sessions, Aqua Fitness, and Group Fitness: on the day of your session, please notify us by emailing fitness@newmarket.ca with CANCEL in the subject line or call 905-953-5300 ext. 2710. A credit will be applied to your account.
  • For cancellations for Lane Swim and Public Swim: on the day of your session, please notify us by emailing info@newmarket.ca with CANCEL in the subject line or call Customer Service at 905-953-5303. A credit will be applied to your account.
  • Cancellations received with less than 2-hour notice will be considered late and will be considered a no show.
  • Refunds will not be issued for "no shows".
  • Please refer to our No Show Policy for more details
  • Out of courtesy to all, please make every attempt to cancel with sufficient notice so others can fill your spot! We will manage waitlists to the best of our ability.

How to book your workout session

1.     Log onto play.newmarket.ca

  • You will be required to use your Family PIN #and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/ members will have one already in our system. 

I forget my password or log in.

  • If you do not know or remember your LOGIN information:
  • Select 'Login' (on the top right-hand corner of the screen)
  • Select 'Forgot Password?'
  • An email will be sent to you from 'helpdesk, quik-e-link (TBC-trying to adjust)' with your Family PIN # and Personal Barcode # for every member in your household.

I'm a new user

  • New users can create an account by clicking "Create New Account" in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • You will receive a confirmation of account activation within one (1) business day by email.
  1. Click on the Programs tab under the search function
  2. Under "Browse for Courses" click on 'Fitness Centre Drop Ins', find the desired workout session, click on the Add button to put it into your basket.
  3. You may move back and forth between My Basket and the Activities screen using the tabs at the top of the page.
  4. When you have finished, proceed to the Checkout to make a payment.
  5. A receipt once your payment has been successfully completed will be emailed to you for your records
  1. IMPORTANT: All online registrations must be paid in full using a valid credit card (VISA, Mastercard and American Express).  Any outstanding balance on your account must also be paid at this time.  Any credits on your account will automatically be applied to the total balance due. Please note that if you have a fitness membership, you will not be charged for the workout.

Waitlists, Withdrawals, Cancellations and No Show Policy

Waitlists:

  • Waitlists are managed regularly and are treated on a first come, first serve basis. Should a spot become available a Town staff will contact you to advise accordingly. If you do not wish to register or cannot be reached, you will be deleted from the waitlist and the next name will be contacted. You will not be contacted should there not be availability. Drop-ins are not permitted at this time.

Withdrawals and Cancellations:

  • If you cannot make your scheduled time one (1) day, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled session/class.  A credit will be applied to your account.
  • For cancellations on the day of your session, please notify us by emailing info@newmarket.ca with CANCEL in the subject line or call 905-953-5303.  A credit will be applied to your account.
  • Cancellations received with less than 2-hour notice will be considered late and will be considered a no show.

No Show Policy:

If you fail to attend your reservation and do not cancel within 2 hours of its start time; the policy will be as follows:

1st No Show - An email will be sent to your attention by one of our Fitness Staff Members to advise you of our cancellation process and no show policy.

2nd No Show - Your account will be frozen and reservations will be not permitted for one (1) week.

Fitness Centre FAQ

What are the Fitness Centre Hours of Operation?

  • Monday to Friday: 6 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. 
  • Saturday to Sunday: 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

When does registration start? What is the cut off?

  • Starting Sunday, July 18, all timeslots will be available for booking at 8 a.m. every Sunday for programs the following week at play.newmarket.ca
  • Example: To register for Wednesday, July 21, registration begins Sunday, July 18 at 8 a.m.
  • Members and non-members can book online to reserve a workout. You will be required to use your Family PIN # and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/members will have one already in our system.
  • Online registration is available at play.newmarket.ca

What payment methods are available?
We encourage participants to register online at this time. Credit card and debit payments are the only forms of payment available on site at this time.

How are you ensuring safety?

  • Provincial and Regional Public Health COVID-19 Guidelines are being followed.
  • Masks are required at all times within the Magna Centre except when actively using cardio equipment.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be made available at the entrance and accessible throughout the facility.

Are washrooms available?

Yes, the washrooms south of the Fitness Centre will be open for member use.  Locker rooms, change rooms, showers and clubhouses remain closed until further notice.

Are water fountains available to use?
It is recommended that you bring your own (filled) bottle. The water bottle filling station will be available.

Are lockers available? Is there storage for my items?

  • At present, no lockers, change rooms, showers are available.
  • Temporary storage stations are available for members to change into indoor shoes and store their belongings.  Please leave valuables at home, as the Town is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What should I bring to the Fitness Centre?

As locker rooms, change rooms, showers, etc. are currently unavailable, please come dressed ready for your workout. Please bring indoor shoes to change into before your workout.

Is there a limit on how many people can access the fitness centre at one time?

Yes, there is currently a capacity of 20 spots available per 75 minute time spot. In person drop in's are not permitted at this time, with no exceptions. Capacities will be reviewed regularly.

Membership Options

Hold Requests

If you would prefer to keep your membership on hold for the time being, we certainly understand and will accommodate. Memberships can be held for a maximum of four (4) months. Please send your hold requests using our Hold Form to fitness@newmarket.ca We are waiving the usual $10 charge to hold memberships.

Fitness Program Drop-ins

Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership and drop in fee’s are $5.00 plus tax for Fitness Centre, Group and Aqua Fitness access.  Please refer to our Swimming page for admission fees.

Cancellations

Should you wish to cancel your fitness membership, please complete our Cancellation form and email it to fitness@newmarket.ca. Cancellations require a period of 15 days notice from your pre-authorized scheduled payment date . We are waiving the usual $10 charge to cancel memberships.

Modifications to the fitness facility

Fitness Equipment

Newmarket Fitness is thrilled to announce that the Fitness Centre will be completely outfitted with new equipment from Matrix Fitness Canada.

Matrix Fitness Canada is the Canadian Division of Johnson Health Tech (JHT)

JHT/Matrix Fitness Canada is a division of Johnson Health Tech, the 2rd largest manufacturer of commercial fitness equipment in the world, including Matrix branded equipment.

Unique and Exclusive Programs on all Cardio Machines:

Sprint 8 is the best exercise for weight loss and it only takes 20 minutes, three days a week, and it is scientifically proven to work. The high-intensity portion of this exercise program amounts to just four minutes per workout. That's only 12 minutes of high-intensity workout per week. Sprint 8 naturally releases HGH, so you can lose body fat, build muscle and have more daily energy.

Amenities temporarily on pause

Pool Change Rooms: The Family change room will be open for changing for 10 minutes AFTER each scheduled swim/aqua fitness class only. Showers, hairdryers and other change room amenities will be unavailable until further notice, and each user must use one of the stalls to change. Change room access will be limited to accommodate physical distancing requirements.

Water Fountains:  Participants should bring a pre-filled water bottle for their workout. Water fountains will be equipped with bottle fillers should participants require additional water, but participants are not permitted to drink directly from the water fountains.

Lockers: Lockers will not be available at this time.  We highly recommend that you leave your valuables at home where possible.  Designated areas will be provided to safely put down your items while you work out and disinfected after each use
