Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all in-person programs and events hosted by the Town of Newmarket will follow all guidelines released by the Ontario Ministry of Health and York Region Public Health. We are dedicated to providing a fun and safe environment for all staff and participants.

What's Open:

Group Fitness Information

  • Group fitness classes will take place in the Fitness Studio located on the 3rd floor of the Magna Centre.
  • Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
  • Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership, and non-members are $8 plus tax per class.
  • Ten (10) minutes before class time, the pre-screening check-in process will begin.  Participants must fill out the online Covid-19 screening form and show staff the green checkmark and proof of double vaccination and identification. 
  • Face masks are required within our facility.  Masks are not required during exercise but must remain on until directed otherwise by the Fitness Instructor.
  • Classes must begin and end on time; no late check in's will be permitted at this time.
  • Once checked in, you will be permitted to go up to the Fitness Studio.
  • Classes have been modified where possible to ensure less movement and equipment.
  • Personal items will be kept at your designated station. All outdoor shoes and coats should remain outside the studio on the designated chairs.
  • All participants have designated spots that are more than 6 feet/ 2 meters from another participant.
  • Upon arrival at the Fitness Studio, participants will get their required fitness equipment and take it to their designated spot.
  • Participants must wipe down their equipment with the wipes provided before returning their equipment to the designated spot.
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time.
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required.
  • Once the class is over and equipment is cleaned and returned, participants must exit the Fitness Studio promptly
  • You must come ready to work out, including your pre-filled water bottle, as water fountains are not available at this time.


Group Fitness FAQ

How do I attend a Group Fitness class?  Can I just show up?
All participants must pre-register and pay online at play.newmarket.ca. A reduced drop-in fee of $8 plus tax is available to non-fitness centre members.


Will change rooms and showers be available for my workout visit?
Change rooms and showers are now available for use. Lockers are now available in the change rooms and the Fitness Centre.  Please use the change rooms at your own risk.


How will you ensure my safety during my group fitness class?
Capacities are reduced, and spaces must be reserved. A health screening is required before entering the facility. Physical distancing is mandatory, and regular cleaning and sanitization of high touch points and equipment will be performed regularly.

 

Do I have to wear a mask?
All users must wear a mask/face covering while in the facility, all common areas and the group fitness area.  Masks are not required during exercise but are recommended to be with you at all times.

 

Is there a schedule with a list of instructors and class styles?

How do I cancel my class registration?
You can log back into your account and cancel your reservation one (1) day in advance.  For day of cancellations please email fitness@newmarket.ca
with cancel in the subject line. Please make sure to include your name and the class that you would like to cancel.

Tim Hortons Indoor Track

  • The Tim Hortons Indoor Track is now open, and no reservation is required
  • Before entering the building, you must fill out the online Covid-19 screening form and show staff the green checkmark and proof of double vaccination and I.D.
  • Once in the Magna Centre, please check-in at the Customer Service kiosk, and either swipe your Fitness Centre membership card, redeem your punch pass or pay the drop-in rate
  • Face masks must be worn within our facility.  Masks are not required while walking/running

What you need to know when using the Fitness Centre
  • Before entering the building, you must fill out the online Covid-19 screening form and show staff the green checkmark and proof of double vaccination and I.D
  • Sanitize your hands frequently.
  • Masks must be worn when entering the facility, in common areas, lobbies, washrooms, and hallways.
  • All users of the Fitness Centre will be required to wear a mask/face covering except for when you are actively exercising
  • Your mask must stay on while travelling between pieces of equipment.
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment AFTER each use.

Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership and drop in fee’s are $8 plus tax for Fitness Centre, Group and Aqua Fitness access.  Please refer to our Swimming page for admission fees.
