Town of Newmarket Council establishes Committees and Boards to be responsible for and make recommendations to Council regarding various matters. The Town promotes and encourages citizen engagement and Committees play an important role in shaping our community.

What is the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee (DABRAC)
The Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee will: Provide input, guidance, and support to the Town of Newmarket on addressing anti-Black racism; Strengthen the Town of Newmarket’s connection to its Black communities; Facilitate transparent and effective communication and engagement with Town of Newmarket Black communities; and, Work with the DABR Representatives to provide joint annual reports to Council on the Town of Newmarket progress in dismantling and eliminating Anti-Black Racism
When are the meetings held and what is the time commitment?
Beginning in 2024, the DABRAC will meet on a quarterly basis (i.e., 4 times a year). It is expected that the meetings will be held from 7 pm to 9 pm. Note that the dates and times of the meetings for the full year will be confirmed at the first meeting for the DABRAC. Individuals who are appointed to the DABRAC, will be appointed for a 2 year term, or until a successor is appointed.
How can I attend a Committee meeting? Committee members will be invited to attend meetings in person at the Municipal Offices, or virtually via Zoom.

Please note: the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Task Force and the Main Street District Business Improvement Area Board of Management are operating and recruitment will commence once reviews of the respective groups are completed.
