Parkland is an integral component of the urban landscape and is required to create healthy and complete communities.
In accordance with the provisions of the Planning Act, the Town of Newmarket has prepared a Parkland Dedication By-law. This By-law requires developers and builders to either set aside a certain amount of a development site for parkland (parkland dedication) or alternatively, pay a cash-in-lieu that will be used to create parkland elsewhere in the Town. Both measures will ensure that the residents of the Town are appropriately served by parkland.
The Parkland Dedication By-law applies on a Town-wide basis, and contains requirements specific to the Yonge Street and Davis Drive corridors (the Town's Urban Centres) that are intended to incentivize their redevelopment.
