Event Cancelled

In an effort to keep our community safe we are not hosting Town event gatherings at this time for public safety.We have made the decision to cancel this year's First Night event.

Wishing our community a safe and happy 2022!



Date: Friday, December 31, 2021 

Time: 5 to 9 p.m.

Location: Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive)

Cost: Free (registration required for swimming and skating sessions only) - registration opens Friday, December 17th at 8 a.m.


Bring the family and celebrate the new year with free swimming, skating, indoor concert and skating performances and outdoor pre-fireworks concert and buskers! 

Giveaway Alert! The first 500 event attendees will receive a Connor McDavid collectable miniature hockey stick thanks to our sponsor Tim Hortons.

Indoor Activities (5 to 8:30 p.m.)

Indoor Concert and Skating Performances (Drop-in)
Join us in the Forhan Arena for dynamic live concerts on the ice featuring the band Switchbeat and dazzling performances from professional figure skaters. Registration not required.

Participants are to enter the Magna Centre east entrance where participants will then be required to complete the COVID-19 online screening, show proof of full vaccination for COVID-19, and be directed into the Bobby Forhan Arena. (See COVID-19 Protocols below)

Concert and skating performance times: 
  • 5 to 5:30 p.m. 
  • 6 to 6:30 p.m. 
  • 7 to 7:30 p.m. 
  • 8 to 8:30 p.m. 

COVID-19 Protocols: 

  • Maximum capacity = 500 people/concert (50% indoor venue capacity) 
  • Face masks are required to be worn in the building including during performances. 
  • All attendees will need to complete the COVID-19 online screening tool for symptoms the day of the event. 
  • Attendees 12 years and older will be required to show proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 (government issued ID and second dose vaccine receipt). Fully vaccinated means those 12+ must have proof of two doses of a Health Canada Approved Vaccine or one dose of the Jansen (Johnson and Johnson) vaccine and 14 days must have passed since your second vaccine.

Public Swimming (Register)

Registration required. Registration opens on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 8 a.m.
Swimming admission standards apply.

  • 6 to 7:10 p.m. (Magna Pool) (course code: 141042)
  • 7:20 to 8:30 p.m. (Magna Pool) (course code: 141043)

Outdoor Pre-Fireworks Event (8:30 to 9 p.m.) 

Join us on the East side of the Magna Centre from 8:30 to 9 p.m. for an energetic live concert featuring the Bianca Rollo Band, train rides on the Tim Hortons Express, food trucks, photo opportuntities and roaming busker entertainment. 

Registration is not required for the outdoor pre-fireworks event. 


COVID-19 Protocols for the outdoor pre-fireworks event: 

  • All attendees should maintain physical distance of 6 feet/2 metres from others outside of their family. 
  • If physical distancing becomes difficult, attendees should wear a face mask. 
  • Face masks will be mandatory for some activities (e.g. using indoor washrooms, train rides)
  • All attendees should complete the COVID-19 online screening prior to arriving at the event. If you do not pass the screening and are experiencing signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please do not attend the event. 

Fireworks Display (9:00 - 9:05 p.m.) 

  • Don't miss the dazzling 5 minute fireworks show at 9 p.m. to complete your New Year's Eve experience.
  • The fireworks display will be taking place from the Magna Centre mini soccer fields at the southeast corner of Mulock Drive and Fernbank Road.
  • Spectators will be able to view the fireworks from the east Magna Centre parking lot.
  • Registration is not required to attend the fireworks. 
  • COVID-19 protocols are the same as during the pre-fireworks event.   

Parking and Road Closures: 

  • Magna Centre East parking lot will be closed on Friday, December 31, 2021 starting at 7 a.m. 
  • Fernbank Road (from Mulock Drive to Nellie Little Crescent) will be closed from 8:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. during the fireworks show.

Media and Town of Newmarket staff will be taking photos and video footage at Town of Newmarket Special Events. These images may be used, re-used and published in news stories, social media and on websites, in addition to distributed to our event partners.
